School security should be thought of in concentric layers. The first layer of defense is the perimeter. The goal of perimeter security is to ensure that campuses aren’t easily accessible. Schools need to be able to prevent unwanted intruders from entering the secure space that has been defined for students and staff. At its core, perimeter security has more to do with understanding and controlling patterns – not just locking doors.
