Ivey’s Everyday Heroes Grant Program

Grants up to $25,000 for capeless defenders of school safety

Johnathan Ivey, president of AtlasIED, along with the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS), and the NSCA Education Foundation, are proud to offer the Ivey’s Everyday Heroes award. Presented annually to recognize students, staff, or educators who have exhibited heroic and selfless acts to keep others safe in our schools, Ivey’s Everyday Heroes Award was developed in memory of Jonathan’s father, Loyd Ivey.

Ivey’s Everyday Heroes candidates are identified through an application process (below) and all nominations are evaluated by PASS K-12’s board.

Eligibility

  • A nomination from an applicant must be received via the form below. 
  • The nominee (individual being recognized) must be 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen. For nominees under the age of 18, please contact nscafoundation@nsca.org with “Ivey’s Everyday Heroes Grant” in the subject line.
    • Nominees who are/were students at the time of the incident must be enrolled in a high school, or have earned  a high school diploma, or received the equivalent of a high school diploma (GED). Posthumous nominees are accepted.
  • Nominees that are/were school employees, safety resource officers, educators, or administrators must show proof of employment and indicate association with a particular school or school district.
  • Nominees must be able to show proof that they were directly involved in an act of kindness, intervention, or involvement that led to a successful outcome of prevention or reduction in a violent act or potential loss of life. If the nominee suffered loss of life, their family members will be included in the determination of how the funds are used.

Selection Process

  • The grant program will be administered by the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools (PASS).
  • Grants will be awarded on a merit basis determined by a three-person panel comprised of PASS leaders. 
  • Judging criteria are:
    • Presentation of application (compelling and accurate accounts).
    • Details and nature of the incident(s) leading up to the school safety-related situation and the outcomes achieved through the nominee’s involvement.
    • Strength of letters of recommendation.

Award Procedures

  • Applicants and grant recipients will be notified of their award status via email.
  • Grants will be distributed once an acknowledgment of acceptance has been received from the recipient and the program of choice has been determined.
  • Up to $25,000 will be given out annually and may be disbursed in one of the following ways:
    • The grant may be awarded to just one qualified candidate or,
    • In the event of multiple qualified applications, more than one grant may be issued for lesser amounts, but not less than $5,000 per recipient.
  • Funds will be sent directly to the school via PASS or the NSCA Education Foundation. The education entity can include this grant within its awards programs for the student, educator, official, or administrator to be recognized at an assembly or awards function.
  • The grant judging panel reserves the right to notify and consult with school administration, family members, the nominator, or nominees themselves to determine potential ways the funds can be used.
  • Grant recipients will be acknowledged on the official PASS website and in email communications.
