America’s Safe Schools Week, 2026
New PASS in Practice Course & A Welcome Letter From Chuck Wilson, Board Chairman for PASS
Dear Esteemed Colleagues and Partners,
As we enter another annual Safe Schools Week, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight an important project we have worked hard to achieve together. This year’s launch of the new certificate program, PASS in Practice (PiP), allows any school personnel — or any person having any role in a school — to educate themselves on the PASS layered guidelines in a new way, and discover what it takes to create a safe learning environment under PASS guidance.
PiP is an online course that is split into seven sections, based on the main PASS security layers. It covers districtwide application of the PASS Guidelines, digital security, campus and building perimeter safety, all the way to recommended safety practices for the classroom interior. The course begins with a foundational overview and delves deeper into each security layer, with a brief quiz after each section. PiP offers interactive skill checks, practical examples, and actionable planning tools. Take the course at your own pace, answer the questions at the end of each tier, and each person who completes the course will earn a printable completion badge and certificate.
The course is free for K-12 administrators and end-users thanks to a grant from the Security Industry Association. Email cwilson@passk12.org to receive the discount code.
The ultimate goal of this course is to help you assess your current environment and spur thoughtful discussions about security gaps on your campus. From there, we hope to help give you the confidence to triage necessary improvements and develop and communicate your new, comprehensive safety plan to keep your school community proactive, safe, and resilient.

Thank you for your steadfast commitment to this mission. The more we spread the word about our PASS Guidelines, the more school personnel can make informed decisions that ensure students all over the country have access to the safe learning environment they deserve.
With deep gratitude,
Chuck Wilson
